Stanislas Charities Scotland

The charitable work associated with the Priory of Scotland is carried out through Stanislas Charities Scotland SCIO, a registered Scottish charity (Scottish Charity No. SC055152).

This structure provides a clear and accountable framework for the receipt, administration, and application of all charitable funds. It ensures that the work undertaken in Scotland is conducted in accordance with Scottish charity law, and that all funds are directed solely towards recognised charitable purposes.

Relationship with the Priory

The Priory of Scotland brings together members, postulants, and friends of the Order in a shared spirit of service, fellowship, and charitable intent. Through its gatherings, events, and wider activities, it provides the setting in which charitable work is conceived, supported, and carried forward.

Stanislas Charities Scotland SCIO is a registered charity, which the Priory has chosen as its nominated body for the distribution of Charitable funds, and the body which the membership of the Priory participates in when undertaking philanthropic activities. All charitable funds raised through the activities of the Priory are received and administered by Stanislas Charities Scotland, and are applied in furtherance of its charitable purposes.

In this way, the Priory and the SCIO operate in close association: the former giving shape and impetus to the work, the latter ensuring that it is carried out within a properly constituted and regulated framework.

Use of Funds

All monies raised for charitable or philanthropic purposes in Scotland are paid to, or transferred to, Stanislas Charities Scotland, where they are:

  • held and accounted for in accordance with charity law;

  • applied exclusively to charitable purposes;

  • and directed towards causes where support will make a clear and practical difference.

This includes support for local initiatives in Scotland, responses to particular needs as they arise, and contributions aligned with wider charitable aims.

Governance & Accountability

As a Registered Charity, Stanislas Charities Scotland is entered on the Scottish Charity Register and is regulated by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

The charity trustees are responsible for the proper governance of the SCIO, including the management of its funds and the oversight of its activities. In carrying out these duties, they act in accordance with the requirements of Scottish charity law and in the interests of the charity’s stated purposes.

This provides a clear line of accountability, ensuring that all charitable activity associated with the Priory of Scotland is conducted with transparency, integrity, and proper stewardship.

A Firm Foundation

The establishment of Stanislas Charities Scotland SCIO marks an important step in the development of the Order’s work in Scotland.

It provides a stable and recognised foundation upon which charitable activity can grow, ensuring that the spirit of service which animates the Priory is matched by a structure capable of sustaining and extending that work in a responsible and enduring way.
